SOUTHEASTERN AND ENCANTO COMMUNITY PLAN

As part of a city-wide effort to update its community plans, MW Steele was retained as the urban design consultant with Dyett & Bhatia for the Southeastern and Encanto communities. Together, these two communities form one of the largest community planning areas in the city. MW Steele Group organized a series of “pop-ups” in the community to solicit input from underserved residents in the area. Southeastern and Encanto are some of the oldest communities in San Diego. Many of their neighborhoods, streets and buildings reflect a rich cultural and architectural history, with a diversity of population, uses and cultural resources. The commercial corridors exhibit the most potential for future growth. This plan brought into fold several specific planning efforts that have taken place in the area over the years, of which a handful have been prepared and executed by MW Steele and Dyett & Bhatia.
