M.W. Steele Group (with Michael Stepner), a comprehensive advisory committee, and the City of San Diego developed the City of San Diego Street Design Manual to provide information and guidance for the design of the public right-of-way that recognizes the many and varied purposes that a street serves. The Street Design Manual is intended to assist in the implementation of the Progress Guide and General Plan, the Strategic Framework Element, and the Transit-Oriented Development Code. Additionally, the Street Design Manual has helped to implement special requirements identified within the City’s community plans, precise plans, and other City Council-adopted policy and/or regulatory documents. The research and design process for the development of the Street Design Manual was an interactive process that resulted in a comprehensive manual with broad community support.
