MW Steele Group worked with Gerding Edlen Development, Spurlock Poirer Landscape Architects, and Zimmer Gansul Frasca Architects to develop a proposal for the San Diego Civic Center. The proposed design was “beyond LEED Platinum.” It incorporated all forms of energy conservation, on-site energy generation and water conservation. The design of the Civic Center resulted in an architecturally significant new City Hall that will accommodate the City’s future operating and parking needs while saving money. This is accomplished by improving efficiency and consolidating all the City’s operations into a single building. With the belief that creating urban environments should go well beyond single buildings, the new Civic Center will be a complex of buildings incorporating performing arts, retail uses, housing for City workers and others, a new central fire station and additional offices, potentially for other government agencies.
