1 MISSION

This mixed-use project incorporates the majority of an urban block in the Mission Hills neighborhood of San Diego. The existing and new buildings occupy a prominent site and their design transforms what was an auto oriented 1950’s strip mall back to its original turn of the century pedestrian oriented storefront, reinforcing the gateway to this historic neighborhood. From the project inception in 2003, the design team involved the neighborhood in the design process. After numerous hearings and community meetings, compromises were made, including a reduced maximum height.
