Mesa College Learning Resource Center
Completed in 1998, the Learning Resource Center provides more than 100,000 SF of new space for Mesa Community College’s Library and Independent Learning Center. Sited at the edge of a canyon in the center of the existing campus, this building is the largest single facility ever developed by the California Community College System. In addition to individual and group study areas, the building also houses video production facilities for educational media used throughout the campus.
MW Steele Group assisted in preparing the Capital Outlay Budget Proposal for the project which included extensive programming with multiple users, participation in community college workshops, development of schematic design and detailed cost estimates.
Containing over 80,000 SF of computer access flooring, the Learning Resource Center accommodates state-of-the-art data and communications capabilities. Nearly all data and communications are transmitted via fiber-optic cabling, terminating at multifunction floor outlets for comprehensive networking capabilities. The HVAC system utilizes variable air volume distribution in multi-zone configurations, thereby accommodating a variety of uses and occupant loads. Similarly, the electrical system is provided with 30% redundancy of circuitry to allow for additional equipment loads which may arise in the future. Data outlets are provided in tandem with power to address a multitude of computer networking configurations and modular casework is employed for desks and workstations to facilitate future rearrangement of functions.
