The senior living architecture and design project won the highest honors for helping to create a community that betters the lives of its residents through design innovation.

San Diego, CA: Wesley Palms, a Front Porch retirement community designed by San Diego based architecture and planning firm M.W. Steele Group, was named the National Association Home Builder’s (NAHB) Gold Award winner for the Best of 55+ Independent Living Community ‘On the Boards.’

The NAHB Best of 55+ Awards Competition is the industry's only and most prestigious national awards program honoring excellence and innovation in multiple categories including building, design, marketing and lifestyle for developments that serve the senior market.

Wesley Palms Retirement Community is a multi-phased redevelopment plan located on Mt. Soledad in Pacific Beach, CA. The goal of the plan includes the extensive renovation of 162 patio homes; the revitalizing of the main building, common areas, and amenities; and enhancing the sustainability and aesthetic features of over thirty-five acres of its park-like landscape.  The design of the Patio Homes is inspired by the stylish mid-century modern aesthetic and is complete with clean lines, contemporary finishes, sustainability features, and an emphasis on providing residents a barrier-free living experience.

“It has been a pleasure working together with M.W. Steele Group on the design plans for our new Patio Homes and our main building renovations,” said Wesley Palms Executive Director Ben Geske. “Our collaboration has resulted in a timeless, high-quality, mid-century modern design that’s both innovative and functional.  The design reflects Wesley Palms’ unique sense of place and its commitment to creatively meeting the needs of residents as they age.”

Phases one and two will be completed in Spring 2016, phase three will be ongoing and phase four is scheduled to begin April 1st. Interest lists are already forming.

Principal Designer at M.W. Steele Group, Steve Miles noted, “It has been exhilarating to be a part of a project that is at the forefront of reshaping what people expect senior living to be and through this process revealing something truly special and different.”
