As part of an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant project, the City of Fresno embarked on an update to their General Plan and Land Development Code. Working with Dyett and Bhatia Urban & Regional Planners as the prime consultant for the city, we were engaged to envision, evaluate and propose urban form concepts for the city, with the intention to subsequently codify these concepts in an update to the land development code that may include a form-based approach.
The project is organized around a series of working papers, which we wrote with Dyett & Bhatia and set the tone of the general plan update. These were presented to a citizen’s advisory committee, the public at large and key city leaders and politicians. From here the process included further quantitative and qualitative analysis of the alternatives, along with 3d modeling and visualization of design concepts and principles.
Our close working relationship with the city’s planning department staff and leaders (cemented over the years through work on other projects in the city and region) has made a significant difference in the success of the process to date.
